Jackie McGowan St Croix

​

Jackie has been involved with animals all of her life. She started a pet sitting and dog walking business during the summer months, when she was just 10 years old.

​

Jackie has been training and grooming dogs, since she got her own dog "Sam", when she was 11 years old.  And officially started competitive dog training when she was 19.  She also started learning her grooming techniques with Sam.  She has owned and operated Mud Puddle Paws since 2010, and worked with one of the top handlers in the Maritimes, grooming show dogs.
 

Jackie currently does grooming in her home in the Codroy Valley. Small dogs only.

 

Jackie has also worked with and trained horses and was even considering a career as a riding instructor. This was not to be though, as dog training became her main focus.

Her professional career with dogs spans over 40 years. She has also clicker trained and worked with birds, cats, donkeys, and horses.

​

Jackie's own dogs, have appeared on tv several times, and have done print ads and commercials. Her dogs have also been trained in service work, to assist with special needs.

 

In the late 90's, Jackie created the first "Reactive Dog Classes" in Canada. These classes were specifically for dogs who suffered with high anxiety, and a fear response to social exposure, and being left alone. They were the first classes of there kind at that time, as they relied solely on a reward based training, and a positive reinforcement approach to canine anxiety and reactivity.

Jackie successfully released her first book,  Indecent Exposure in 2017. This book explains the effect that our society has on the modern dog, and how we can help them cope with the pressures and expectations we humans often put on them.

​

Currently, she resides in glorious, rural  Newfoundland with her wonderful husband,  3 Parson Russell Terriers, 2 Idaho Shags, and a flock of chickens.

 

Jackie offers basic training, scent work, canine freestyle, and more.

Available for private classes (client's home), group classes, and specialized training for dogs who suffer with anxiety and reactivity.
